Wilson Hill Pistol Club offers the following classes that are open to the public as well as members.

*Discounts will be offered for WHPC members (excluding Advanced Handgun and Skill Builder).

Unless otherwise noted, all classes will start at 8 am. Any class over three hours will include a lunch break. Attendees may bring their own lunch or visit any of the local establishments. Class size is kept small to allow students to receive as much individualized attention as possible.

SAFTD F.A.S.T. Handgun:

The goal of the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) Training Division's “F.A.S.T Handgun” course is to provide the student with a solid foundation in basic knowledge of handgun "Fundamentals And Safety Training" on your specific handgun, a basic understanding of ammunition and how it functions, as well as shooting fundamentals.


A person new to the use of a firearm for personal defense typically has a broad range of questions and is faced with learning several skills that are critical in the safe use of a firearm – in this case a handgun. F.A.S.T Handgun is specifically designed to provide a person new to handguns the opportunity to gain that knowledge and learn the basics of operation, cleaning and maintenance, safety, and much more. “F.A.S.T Handgun” is also meant as an introductory course for students new to handguns before taking SAFTD Defensive Handgun 1.


Several topics will be covered in “F.A.S.T. Handgun”. These include but are not limited to:

  • Safe handling of your firearm.

  • Gun Safety Rules

  • Safe Storage of your firearm and ammunition.

  • Basic components of your Handgun

  • Operation of your Handgun

  • Shooting Fundamentals

  • Clearing Common Stoppages

  • Selecting a Handgun and Ammunition

  • Cleaning and Maintaining your Handgun

 

Required Equipment:

  • Comfortable clothing

  • Hydration system or Bottled water.

  • Shoes – comfortable with sufficient support to permit a full range of motion. No sandals or flip-flops.

  • Long Pants, Shirt With Higher Collar

  • Baseball Cap

 

We provide firearms, ammunition, and related safety gear. The class length is approximately 8 hours. This class replaces the NRA Basic Pistol class. The cost is $125.00.*

SAFTD Defensive Handgun 1 - Introduction to the Defensive Use of a Handgun:

The goal of the SAF Training Division's “Defensive Handgun 1” course is to provide the student with a solid foundation in basic knowledge of handgun safety, various types of handguns, an understanding of ammunition and how it functions, shooting fundamentals, and an introduction to defensive shooting skills.


A person new to the use of a firearm for personal defense typically has a broad range of questions and is faced with learning several skills that are critical in the use of a firearm – in this case a handgun – to defend themselves, their family, or someone in their charge. Defensive Handgun 1 is specifically designed to provide a person new to handguns the opportunity to gain that knowledge and learn those skills.


Several topics will be covered in “Defensive Handgun 1 – Introduction to the Defensive Use of a Handgun”. These include but are not limited to:

  • Safe handling of your firearm.

  • Safe Storage of your firearm and ammunition.

  • Basic components of a Double Action Revolver.

  • Basic components of a Semi-Automatic Pistol

  • Operation of a Double–Action Revolver

  • Operation of a Single and a Double Action Semi-Automatic Pistol.

  • Working With A Natural Defensive Stance

  • 2-Handed and Single Handed Engagements

  • Integrating The Color Code Into Your Life

  • Finding Your Balance of Speed and Precision

  • Clearing Common Pistol Stoppages

  • Progressive Shooting Drills

  • Definition of Cover and Concealment

  • Use of Cover

  • Selecting a Pistol and Ammunition

 

Required Equipment:

  • A modern, serviceable, center-fire handgun (Semi-automatic Highly Recommended)

  • Ear and Eye protection (electronic muffs preferred).

  • No pocket guns or holsters such as Ruger LCP etc. You will be presenting the gun from concealment and reholstering repeatedly. You need to be proficient at this task and have a holster that does not collapse when the gun is removed.

  • Semi-automatic pistol or Double Action Revolver .38 special or 9mm or above.

  • 150 Rounds of Ammunition: Factory fresh ammo only. NO RELOADS or specialty ammo such as RIP ammo etc.

  • Two extra functional magazines (semi-autos) or speed-loaders (revolvers)

  • Dual Magazine carrier optional but HIGHLY recommended.

  • Comfortable clothing, knee-pads 

  • Hydration system or Bottled water.

  • Shoes – comfortable with sufficient support to permit a full range of motion. No sandals or flip-flops.

  • Long Pants, Shirt With Higher Collar

  • Sturdy Belt

  • Baseball Cap

 

Course length is a full day, typically 8-10 hours including a 1-hour lunch break. There are short breaks throughout both the classroom session and shooting range drills.

Cost $125.00.* If you have taken the NRA Basic Pistol class or the F.A.S.T. Handgun course, you are eligible for a $25.00 discount for this class.

SAFTD Defensive Handgun 2 - Concealed Carry and Skills:

The goal of the Second Amendment Foundation Training Division's Defensive Handgun 2 Course is to provide the student with an opportunity to build upon the foundation skill set and knowledge base that was acquired in Defensive Handgun 1. This will include a continued focus on the defensive mindset, and the development of marksmanship and gun handling skills needed to safely and effectively carry a concealed handgun for personal self-defense.

Students will become adept at working with the handgun from the holster, including drawing safely, efficiently, and quickly, and safely re-holstering. You will learn to shoot quickly but accurately, fire multiple shots with full control, and will learn to reload the pistol quickly and efficiently using both speed reloads and emergency reloads. Students will learn to shoot effectively with one hand, using the dominant hand and/or the non-dominant hand. We will work on mental conditioning to prepare the student to effectively deal with a sudden threat to their life or the life of another.

Defensive Handgun 2 is designed to help the student quickly develop essential skills that can help him/her prevail in real lethal force encounters.

Defensive Handgun 2 consists of a full day of intense classroom & range training and instruction covering a variety of topics including, but not limited to:

  • Gun Safety Rules and Trigger Finger & Muzzle Discipline

  • The Importance of the Defensive Mindset

  • Review of Defensive Shooting Fundamentals

  • Dry fire & Live Fire Exercises

  • Presentation from a holster

  • Emergency and Speed Reloads

  • Fighting stance platform

  • Delivering Multiple Shots efficiently and on target

  • Trigger Reset

  • The IALEFI-QP Silhouette Target

  • Introduction to One-Hand Only Presentation and Shooting

 

Required Gear:

  • A modern, serviceable, center-fire handgun (Semi-Automatic Pistol or Double Action Revolver .38 special or 9mm or above.)

  • Ear and Eye protection (electronic muffs preferred).

  • Strong Side Holster

    • For safety reasons on the range, our classes will use Strong Side Holsters only! - (No cross draws, shoulder rigs, pocket holsters, ankle, appendix, or small of the back carry.) Blackhawk Serpa and similar holsters that require the use of the index finger to deactivate a retention device will not be used in SAFTD classes. The ONLY exception is for Law Enforcement & Military who are issued these types of holsters for duty use.

  • No pocket guns such as Ruger LCP etc. You will be presenting the gun from concealment and re-holstering repeatedly. You need to be proficient at this task and have a holster that does not collapse when the gun is removed.

  • 175 rounds of Ammunition: Factory fresh ammo only. NO RELOADS, specialty or novelty ammo such as RIP ammo, etc.

  • Two extra functional magazines (semi-autos - 3 total) or speed-loaders (revolvers)

  • Dual Magazine carrier optional but HIGHLY recommended.

  • Hydration system or Bottled water.

  • Shoes – comfortable with sufficient support to permit a full range of motion. No sandals or flip-flops.

  • Long Pants, Shirt With Higher Collar

  • Sturdy Belt

  • Baseball Cap

 

The Defensive Handgun 2 course length is a full day, typically taking 8 – 10 hours including a 1-hour scheduled lunch break. A short break is given after each hour of instruction (approximately). Cost $150.00.*

NH Gun Law and Simulator Training:

Learn about NH gun laws, including the laws governing the use of force. After the gun law discussion, you get to test your newly acquired knowledge with our interactive firearms simulator. The cost for this 4-hour class is $40.00.

SAFTD Defensive Carbine 1:

Defensive Carbine 1 is specifically designed to provide a person new to carbines the opportunity to gain that knowledge and learn those skills.

Several topics will be covered in “Defensive Carbine 1 - Introduction to the Defensive Use of a Carbine. These include but are not limited to:

  • Safe handling of your firearm.

  • Safe Storage of your firearm and ammunition.

  • Basic components of a Carbine

  • Types and Operation of various Carbines.

  • Working With A Natural Defensive Stance

  • Integrating The Color Code Into Your Life

  • Finding Your Balance of Speed and Precision

  • Shooting From Low and High Barricades

  • Selecting a Carbine and Ammunition

Required Equipment:

 

  • A modern, serviceable, semi-auto carbine.

  • Any Federal or State legal carbine-sized rifle is ok.

  • No full auto, semi-automatics only, .22 adapters, and .22 semi-automatic rifles are authorized. 

  • Lever-action rifles are allowed with Instructor approval.

  • Ear and Eye protection (electronic muffs preferred).

  • Sturdy Shoes, Long Pants, Shirt With Higher Collar

  • Ammunition: Factory fresh ammo only. 

  • NO RELOADS or specialty ammo.

  • Extra magazine carrier

  • Comfortable clothing, and knee pads (optional but recommended).

  • Hydration system or Bottled water.

  • Baseball Cap

 

Course length is a full day, typically 8-10 hours including a 1-hour lunch break. There are short breaks throughout both the classroom session and shooting range drills. Cost $125.00

NRA Defensive Pistol Course:

Short Description: This course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly, and with confidence.

More Details: The NRA Defensive Pistol course will focus on the techniques needed to develop a defensive mindset. The goal of the course will be to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly, and with confidence. As a result of participating in this course, the student will be able to explain and demonstrate the following: how to apply the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed firearm; basic principles of concealment; the difference between cover and concealment; drawing from the holster; levels of mental awareness; developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal protection; clearing common stoppages; use of pocket pistols; and more. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics Of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, the NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, and the NRA Defensive Pistol certificate. This course is only conducted by NRA-certified Advanced Pistol Instructors.  Cost $75.00

Skill Builder:

This class will teach students how to safely draw and holster their firearm, learn how to accurately fire one-handed (non-dominant hand too), and show how to increase speed without sacrificing accuracy. We may do some movement and multiple target engagement drills as well.

  1. A modern, serviceable, center-fire handgun Semi-Automatic Pistol or Double Action Revolver .38 special or 9mm or above. (I will allow .22 and .380 provided you have a safe holster for it.)

  2. Ear and Eye protection (electronic muffs preferred).

  3. Strong Side Holster – For safety reasons on the range our classes will use Strong Side Holsters only! - (No cross draws, shoulder rigs, pocket holsters, ankle, appendix, or small of the back carry). Blackhawk Serpa and similar holsters that require the use of the index finger to deactivate a retention device will not be used in SAFTD classes. Advanced Handgun Training:

This course is for those individuals with handgun experience and who wish to improve their personal protection defensive skills both inside and outside of the home environment. This five (5) hour course will include classroom instruction followed by low-light, live-fire exercises on the range. Some of the specifics that will be taught include the proper way to draw a firearm from a holster, flashlight techniques while engaging a threat, the pros and cons of night sights, and basic first aid.

 

Equipment Requirements:

  • Firearm suitable for personal protection (recommend a .38 special or .357 caliber Revolver OR 9mm or larger Semi-automatic)

  • Minimum of two (2) speed loaders/magazines; 3 speed loaders/magazines preferred

  • Sturdy holster

  • Sturdy belt

  • Speedloader/magazine pouch

  • Minimum of 100 rounds of good quality ammunition

  • Tactical LED Flashlight, 100 Lumens or higher

 

Cost is $75.00. Also, a limited quantity of flashlights will be available for purchase on the day of class. When you register for the class, please indicate if you want a flashlight reserved for you.

 

PREREQUISITE: Course in “Personal Protection in the Home” or equivalent. Cost $75.00

 

NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home:

This class is designed for those who are familiar and comfortable with pistol shooting and want to learn skills and techniques for personal protection outside the home.  Attendees will learn the basics of concealed carry, the safe and effective removal of a pistol from concealment, positioning and movement for protection and defense, shooting techniques for different situations, and the legal aspects of both self-defense and concealed carry. The cost is $125.00.*

 

PREREQUISITE: Basic Pistol and Personal Protection in the Home    

      

NRA Personal Protection in the Home:

This class is designed for those who are familiar and comfortable with pistol shooting and want to learn skills and techniques for personal protection inside the home.  Attendees will learn basic defensive handgun skills, strategies for home safety, gun selection best suited for personal protection, and laws governing personal protection with a firearm. The cost is $125.00.*

 

PREREQUISITE:  NRA Basic Pistol of SAFTD F.A.S.T. handgun

NRA Refuse to be a Victim Seminar:

Teaches strategies people can integrate into their everyday lives to avoid becoming a victims of crime.

More Details: A complete seminar may last as long as four or five hours and include the entire lesson plan, but a modified seminar may be as short as one or two hours and cover topics that best suit the needs of a particular audience. This is not a firearms instruction course and does not include instruction in physical combat self-defense. Seminars teach common weaknesses that criminals may take advantage of, and a variety of corrective measures that are practical, inexpensive, and easy to follow. The seminar includes classroom instruction on criminal psychology, automobile crimes; cyber safety, home security, and a variety of crime prevention strategies including carjack avoidance techniques, use of personal safety devices, and more. Students receive the Refuse To Be A Victim® student handbook, NRA Refuse To Be A Victim® brochure, NRA Become A Refuse To Be A Victim® Instructor Brochure, Refuse To Be A Victim® Firearms Supplement, and a course completion certificate. Cost $50.00.  Special classes will offer a bonus 1 hour Sabre Pepper Spray training course. The cost for the bonus class is $25.00 and includes proper use of pepper spray and one canister of SABRE's most popular OC sprays!
